Trail Talk:

Enjoy spectacular views of Mount St. Helens and the blanket of blown-down forest in the valley below as the trail skirts the edge of the blast zone from the May 18, 1980 eruption. Discover the beauty and complexity of the fragile high-elevation ecology.

Trail Facts:The trail climbs steeply through thick forest up to Strawberry Mountain. It then traverses the semi-open ridge top. The trail crosses Forest Road 2516 where it junctions with a short side trail to the old lookout site on top of Strawberry Mountain. It then continues south, descending to junction with the Boundary Trail #1 near Bear Meadow.

Considerations:The trail ascends steeply in the first 3 miles. Be prepared to share the trail with hikers, horses and mountain bikes.

Connections:

Strawberry Mountain Trail #220 connects with Boundary Trail #1 near Bear Meadow. Horse travel is prohibited for Boundary Trail #1 west of Bear Meadow.

Map:Cowlitz Falls and Vanson Peak quadrangles.
