Winter snowshoeing and cross country ski trails and trips near Stevens Pass,WA

Caution: Winter activities like snowshoeing and xc skiing are riskier trips into the forest. Weather can change and it is easy to get lost. Be prepared with emergency supplies/equipment and know what you are doing.

Check for avalanche danger and let people know where you are going and when you will be back.

BECKLER RIVER AREA

Trail Uses

Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Snowmobiling

Access

Beckler River Road 65 is located one-half mile west of the Skykomish Ranger District on US Highway 2. Road 6550 lies six miles up Road 65. Beckler Peak Road 66 lies just over two miles east of the Skykomish Ranger Station. The North Fork Skykomish Road 63 is accessed from US Highway 2 by turning left (north) at the Index Cafe near the town of Index. Continue on Road 63 to the gated bridge before Troublesome Creek campground.

The gate is a county closure and access by wheeled vehicles beyond this point could result in a fine.

The following roads are open to snowmobiles:

Beckler Peak Road 66 Road 6550 Beckler River Road 65 from 6530 road to Jack Pass North Fork Skykomish Road from gated bridge to North Fork Skykomish trailhead The following roads are open to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing:

Johnson Ridge Road 6520

Safety Notes!

Some avalanche potential exists along the Rapid River Road 6530. Once above the timbered switchbacks, the Johnson Ridge Road 6520 opens up into a heavy avalanche area.

BARCLAY LAKE AREA

Access

Road 6024 lies just across from Der Baring Store in the town of Baring.

Area Information

Barclay Creek Road 6024 and Trail 1055 are open to snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

Safety Notes!

A known avalanche path is located at the west end of the lake (outlet of the lake).

FOSS / TONGA AREA

Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Snowmobiling, Hiking

Access

Foss River Road 68 is located one-half mile east of the Skykomish Ranger Station on US Highway 2. Follow Road 68 for 3.5 miles to the Tonga Ridge Road junction.

The Necklace Valley Trail is 4.1 miles from US Highway 2 on Road 68. To reach the West Fork Foss Lakes trailhead from US Highway 2, continue six miles to Road 6835 and follow Road 6835 to its end at the trailhead.

The following roads and trails are open to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing:

Tonga Ridge Road 6830 (favorite of snowmobilers) Foss River Road 68 Maloney Road 6846 Necklace Valley Trail 1062 West Fork Foss Lakes Trail 1064 The following roads are open to snowmobiles:

Tonga Ridge Road 6830 Foss River Road 68 to junction with 6835

Safety Notes!

Avalanche danger exists beyond the river crossing along the Necklace Valley Trail 1062. Travel beyond Trout Lake is not recommended due to a very heavy avalanche area. A known avalance path exists 0.75 mile before the end of the Tonga Ridge Road 6830.

MILLER RIVER / MONEY CREEK AREA

Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Hiking

Access

On US Highway 2, drive four miles west of the Skykomish Ranger Station. Just west of the tunnel, turn south onto the Old Cascade Highway near Money Creek Campground. Continue on the Old Cascade Highway for one mile. Turn right onto Miller River Road. Park here, or continue for two miles to the Miller River Campground. Miller River Road is usually plowed to the campground.

The following roads and trails are open to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing and

closed to snowmobiles:

Money Creek Road 6420 Miller River Road 6410 East Fork Miller River Road 6412 Dorothy Lake Trail 1072

Safety Notes!

Money Creek Road is prone to road / dirt slides. Beyond Lake Elizabeth there are avalanche hazard areas. Possible avalanche danger also exists beyond the Dorothy Lake inlet.

Forest pass required for parking

We urge you to proceed into all of these areas with caution. Check current weather and avalanche conditions BEFORE you go. Also check current conditions with the nearest Ranger Station.
