Snoqualmie pass is located on Interstate 90 just east of Seattle. It is less then an hour drive so the trails can be busy on a summer weekend. Go during the week for less crowded trails and trailheads.


Annette Lake
1019 Elev. gain 1700'. First .7 of a mile is open to horses and bicycles (up to the Iron Horse Trail). Only hikers, after the intersection with the Iron Horse Trail. 3.9 miles More Difficult

Asahel Curtis Nature
1023 One-mile loop hike through old-growth forest. Puncheon can be slippery. 1.3 miles Easiest

Bare Mountain
1037 Elev. gain 3250'. Some holes along trail can be difficult to see, as trail is brushy. Blueberries and wildflowers are abundant in the higher elevations. 4.3 miles More Difficult

Commonwealth Basin
1033 Elev. gain 2300'. Hike Trail #2000 for 2.5 miles to Trail #1033. LISTEN FOR FALLING ROCKS ALONG RED MOUNTAIN! 2.5 / 2.6 miles More Difficult

Denny Creek
1014 Elev. gain 2200'. Brush is getting heavy along some parts of the trail. Some loose rock.
Denny Creek Road Closure beginning Sept. 7 (see news release for details) 4.4 miles More Difficult

Dingford Creek
1005 Elev. gain 2800'. Some blow down and brushy. Some muddy spots and loose rocks along the trail. 5.7 miles More Difficult

Dutch Miller Gap
1030 Elev gain 2200'. Not recommended for horses. Scenic. Blow-down on the trail. 7.5 miles More Difficult

Franklin Falls
1036 Elev. gain 250'. Franklin Falls trail can be combined with the Wagon Road trail for a 2-mile loop. Rocks to the falls can be very slick. 1.0 mile Easiest

1250 Elev. Gain: None. This is a wildlife viewing area. Accessible paved loop hike. No swimming in pond. Day use only.

1314 Elev. gain 500’ (1600’ to Alaska Lake). New trailhead is located on the far side of Gold Creek Pond. Some downed trees and brush.

Hester Lake
1005.1 Elev. gain 2600'. Difficult. Some downed trees. Hike Trail #1005 for 3 miles to Trail 1005.1. There are two large blowdowns across the trail before the Y. 3.0 / 2.5 miles More Difficult

High Lakes
1012 Elev. gain 1800'. Difficult. Hike Snow Lake trail 3 miles to the High Lakes trail. Gem Lake and Lower Wildcat Lake can be accessed from this trail. The trail around Wildcat is very brushy and hard to follow especially to Upper Wildcat Lake. TR #1012 3.9 miles & TR #1013 3.0 miles More Difficult

Ira Spring
(Mason Lake)
1038 Elev. gain 2100'. New trail is in excellent shape and dry. Rainbow and Island Lakes have a few muddy and brushy areas. Look for blueberries and huckleberries near Bandera. Bugs are plentiful. 3.3 miles More Difficult

Kaleetan Lake
1010 Elev. gain 2100'. Hike Trail #1007 for 5.5 miles and Trail #1011 for .5 mile to Trail #1010. 5.5 / 0.5 / 4.0 miles More Difficult

Kendall Peak Lakes
1344 Elev. gain 2000'. FS Road 9090 is closed to motorized vehicles. Walk about 2.5 miles on road to trailhead. 3.5 miles More Difficult

Lennox Creek
1001 Elev. gain 2500'. Difficult. Park and walk to trailhead. Trail is hard to follow. 2.0 road miles--3.8 trail More Difficult

Marten Lake
1006 Elev. gain 1900'. Difficult; steep. Several downed trees. Park at Taylor River gate and walk Trail #1002 for 3 miles to the Marten Lake trail. 3.0 / 1.3 miles More Difficult

McClellan Butte trail


McClellan Butte
1015 Elev. gain 3700'. Mountain bikes and horses are allowed on the first mile to the Iron Horse trail, then hikers only. (Caution: puncheon is deteriorated and is poor footing for horses.) 4.5 miles Most Difficult

Melakwa Lake
1011 Elev. gain 2700'. Hike the Pratt Lake trail 5.5 miles to trail junction, or hike the Denny Creek trail 4.5 miles to Melakwa Lake. 5.5 / 3.2 miles More Difficult

Middle Fork
1003 Elev. gain 1800'. CLOSED TO BIKES. Not recommended for horses. 14.0 miles Easiest

Mount Defiance trail


Mt. Defiance
1009 Elev. gain 3500'. Hike Trail #1007 for 4 miles to Trail #1009. Access to Island and Rainbow Lakes. Thompson Lake trail has 1-5 trees down on it as well as some brush and mud. There are some windfalls and brushy areas. 4.0 / 6.8 miles More Difficult

Nordrum Lake
1004 Elev. gain 2500'. Difficult; steep. Bikes are allowed on Trail #1002 for 6.3 miles; foot traffic beyond. No current trail report. TR #1002 6.3 & TR #1004 2.5 miles More Difficult

Pacific Crest
(Snoqualmie Pass North to Gravel/Ridge Lakes)
2000N Elev. gain 2300'. Access to Katwalk. Trail is in good condition. Limited water sources. There is trail construction between Chikamin and Lemah Creek causing some delays. (Contact the CleElum Ranger District 509.852.1100 for more information.) 7.5 miles More Difficult

2000S Elev. gain 800'. Access to Beaver Pond and Lodge Lake. Blueberries and huckleberries can be found along the way. 5.5 miles More Difficult

Pratt Lake
1007 Elev. gain 2300'. Bridge at the Olallie/Pratt junction is out. Lower Tuscohatchie is muddy. Expect windfall in places.

Rock Creek
1013.1 Elev. gain 2600'. Trail is very brushy in a third of a mile segment near the top before the talus field. Hike Trail #1003 for 3.4 miles to Trail #1013.1. 3.4 / 4.3 miles More Difficult

Snoqualmie Lake
1002 Elev. gain 2600'. First 6.3 miles are open to mountain bikes. New bridge has been installed over Marten Creek (at 3 miles). Puncheon is in bad shape. Some downed trees beyond the Nordrum junction. Not recommended for horses. Insect repellant advised. 10.0 miles More Difficult

Gem Lake


Snow Lake
1013 Elev. gain 1700'; elev. loss 700'. Trail construction between Snow and Gem Lakes, half-hour delays may occur in this area due to trail maintenance. Trail to the Wildcat Lakes are hard to follow. Be sure to have enough water. Blueberries and huckleberries are out. Bugs are plentiful. 3.0 miles More Difficult

Sunday Lake
1000 Elev. gain 500'. Moderate. Park at Gate 30 and hike along old road for the first mile. Sunday Creek crossing is passable now. Rocks can be slick. Brushy trail. 3.1 miles More Difficult

Talapus Lake

Elev. gain 1220'. Talapus Lake is reached at 2 miles; Olallie Lake at 3.1 miles. Bunchberries in bloom. 3.1 miles More Difficult

Wagon Road
1021 Elev. gain 250'. Franklin Falls trail and the Wagon Road trail can be combined for a 2-mile loop. Family Use 1.0 mile Easiest

Williams Lake
1031.1 Elev gain 1800'. Hike Trail #1030 for 6.5 miles to Trail #1031.1. 6.5 / 1.0 miles Easiest
