A massive lava flow looms at the trail's end. Trail Facts:This maintained trail passes through the forest, terminating at the edge of a large lava flow on the open slopes of Mount St. Helens. It provides direct access to the Monitor Ridge climbing route. A climbers' bivouac is located at the trailhead. Considerations:For travel above 4800 feet a permit is required. Those climbing Mount St. Helens can obtain more information by requesting a copy of the Climbers' Brochure or contacting Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument Headquarters.
