Trail Talk:

Lava Canyon is a dynamic art gallery where the natural world displays its powerful works. Mount St. Helens, water, and the forest are sculpting and painting the canyon. As the Muddy River plummets 1,400 feet down the canyon, powerful waterfalls cascade over ancient rock. If you wish to follow the river's journey, be prepared to travel as it does: Upper section: Stroll along this paved and boardwalk trail. Relax and reflect upon the spectacular beauty and design of nature. Middle section: Venture along this loop trail and cross over the turbulent Muddy River. Walk in the shadow of a lava flow. Lower Section: Descend into the depths of the canyon as you follow the Muddy River as it carves its way down a rugged landscape.
