The lake lies nestled along the base of a basalt cliff over which a waterfall pours to replenish the lake's cold, clear water. On the south shore an inviting sandy beach is bordered by a massive lava flow and Mount St. Helens looms just out of sight. Discover the crystalline beauty of this setting by cross-country skiing during the winter months. Trail Facts:This maintained trail climbs gently but steadily to June Lake. From there, it's a steep ascent to the junction with the Loowit Trail system. Considerations:Preserve June Lake's unique beauty by practicing low impact hiking and camping ethics. Connections: June Lake Trail #216B connects directly into the Loowit Trail system. During the winter months it becomes a cross-country ski trail. Map:Mount St. Helens quadrangle.
